Monsanto brainwashing kids towards GMO?

Monsanto Using 4-H to Brainwash Your Children AboStory at-a-glance from Mercola.com

  • Monsanto is boasting its partnership with 4-H Youth Development Organization, the country’s largest and most influential youth organization with more than 6.8 million members in 80 countries worldwide

  • According to the annual reports, 4-H is receiving funding from Monsanto, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Cargill, DuPont, United Soybean Board, Coca-Cola, and Pfizer

  • Monsanto has been hijacking society at every turn, including government institutions, colleges and universities, media agencies, and so-called representatives of “science”

  • Monsanto recently attempted to brainwash young children with a 16-page book called ““Biotechnology Basics Activity Book” full of colorful pages and cartoon characters touting the “benefits” of GMOs

  • If your child is involved with 4-H, please monitor the messages he or she is getting, rather than making assumptions that they are based in truth

This is not the first time Monsanto has used its clever propaganda to influence our nation’s youth. The Council for Biotechnology Information widely circulated a Biotechnology Basics Activity Book for kids, a disturbing and brightly colored obvious intent to ‘educate’ the children.

Children are like little sponges, soaking up everything they see and hear, which makes them particularly vulnerable to being sucked in by propagandaAnd the effects could be life-long—at least they’re intended to be. Indeed you’d be hard-pressed to convince an adult, who from childhood was taught the merits of genetically engineered foods, that there’s anything wrong with such alterations of the food supply.

4-H is really the perfect vehicle for Big Ag to manipulate an entire generation, using tactics not that different from the youth indoctrination strategies employed by political extremists in order to gain children’s trust and then “groom” them however they wish. Think about it—what better way to control the future of our food system than to brainwash 6.8 million impressionable youth into believing that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are safe and beneficial, if not the answer to all the problems of the world?

If corporations like Monsanto are successful in hijacking the minds of our youth, they will essentially be in control the decisions and behavior of the next generation—and there is nothing to stop them until a great deal of damage is done to you, your children and grandchildren, and our planet. This is why it is so critical for you to be involved in your children’s activities and take an active role in their education. Do not fall into the trap of assuming that, just because they are involved with a “reputable” organization like 4-H, that they are getting unbiased and truthful information.

Corn in pet food not good!

DSC_0058Pet Foods with Plant-Derived Proteins May Contain More Harmful Toxins Than Pet Foods with Traditional Fish and Meat Proteins.’

We’ve been warning about GMO contaminated foods and this is a warning about pet foods. Although they don’t mention GMO, most of the corn (and wheat is suspect too) used in non-organic pet foods is GMO and this is an example of what can happen.

The potential for an increase in deadly aflatoxins in pet food made with corn-based ingredients. The increased risk is due to extreme drought conditions in the U.S. Midwest. Aflatoxins are naturally-occurring mycotoxins produced by the Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus paraciticus species of fungi that grow on certain crops. Aflatoxins are highly carcinogenic. They poison the liver and promote tumor development. According to PetfoodIndustry.com: “Pet foods with plant-derived proteins may also contain more harmful toxins than pet foods with traditional fish and meat proteins, according to new research from the University of Guelph.” Animal and poultry science professor Trevor Smith at Guelph in Canada who has spent over three decades researching mycotoxins: “Although we have no exact numbers, we can estimate that when half of the food is of vegetable origin, there will almost always be some degree of contamination. If the food is mainly of animal origins, the chances of contamination are greatly reduced.” He counsels pet owners to minimize the risk by avoiding inexpensive pet foods containing vegetable cereals, corn or wheat fillers, and especially rice bran.

Aflatoxins frequently contaminate agricultural crops before they are harvested. Conditions that promote pre-harvest contamination include high temperatures, prolonged periods of drought, and insect activity. Aflatoxins can also be a problem after harvesting if the crop stays wet for too long. And they can grow on stored crops if the moisture level is too high and mold develops. The three plants with the highest rate of aflatoxin contamination are corn, peanuts and cottonseed. Processed foods containing corn can also carry a risk of aflatoxin adulteration. Infected corn and cottonseed meal fed to dairy cows has resulted in aflatoxin contamination of milk and other dairy products including cheese and yogurt.

Aflatoxicosis is chiefly a disease of the liver, causing GI symptoms, reproductive issues, anemia and jaundice. Certain types of aflatoxins are linked to cancer in animals. If your dog or cat ingests food contaminated with aflatoxins, you can anticipate one or more of these symptoms: severe, persistent vomiting; bloody diarrhea; lack of appetite; fever; sluggishness; discolored urine; jaundice, especially around the whites of the eyes, gums and belly. If you think your pet has eaten potentially contaminated food, even if he’s showing no symptoms of illness, get him to your veterinarian or an emergency vet clinic as soon as possible. And bring the food with you. Also talk with your holistic vet about natural liver detox agents like milk thistle, SAMe, and chlorophyll.

MIT shows study linking Roundup to Autism

gmoGlyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, is the most popular herbicide used worldwide. Monsanto asserts it is not toxic to humans, but here a new study proves otherwise.

Residue of Roundup are found in the main foods of the Western diet, composed primarily of sugar, corn, soy and wheat. Glyphosate inhibit necessary key enzymes in our bodies which create a toxic effect on beneficial insects, animals and people. These enzymes play crucial roles in biology, one of which is to detoxify xenobiotics, a chemical which is found in an organism but is not normally produced or expected to be present.

Stephanie Seneff , a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory who uncovered the results of this study, explains the documented effects of glyphosate and its ability to induce disease. And it also shows that glyphosate is the “textbook example” of the disruption of homeostasis (the imbalance of cell regulation which can lead to the cause of many diseases) by environmental toxin such as found with Roundup.

This new study shows that Roundup enhances the damaging effects of other food borne chemical residues and environmental toxins. Far-reaching health implications of this toxic chemical significantly impact the body due to its use in farming and other areas where food may grow. And what this new study has uncovered is the effects of Roundup are insidiously manifesting slowly over time as inflammation damages many different cellular systems throughout the body.

Consequences with most of the diseases and conditions associated with a Western diet include gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease all stem from even the smallest trace amounts of Roundup that is found in theses foods we eat. And the FDA allows trace amounts of glyphosate in the foods that we buy and eat.

Monsanto has argued that glyphosate is harmless to humans because we don’t have the shikimate pathway, which is necessary for amino acid biosynthesis. However, our gut bacteria do have this pathway. We depend upon them to supply us with essential amino acids (among many other things like Tryptophan, serotonin, melatonin, Tyrosine, dopamine, adrenaline and melanin. When these amino acids are out of balance, as have been found when amounts of Roundup are discovered in the blood of Autistic children, a direct correlation begins unfolding.

What’s wrong with ascorbic acid form of “vitamin C”?

sneeze

When we get a cold what is the first thing we grab – some vitamin C? You might have a bottle of ascorbic acid on your shelf thinking that is vitamin C and will help your cold, but you are misled…

Vitamin C is legally defined as ascorbic acid and folic acid as pterolyglutamic acid. As found in foods, vitamin C is more than just one molecule and to function properly in the body it needs more than just ascorbic acid. Tyrosinase is a co-factor that is essential for the production of the oxidative burst in white blood cells that destroys engulfed pathogens. surrounding the core of tyrosinase are the bioflavoinoids and P factors. These support production and maintenance of collagen and elastin and another component, vitamin K and hemoglobin production co-factors (J factors) were also needed to function properly.

When plants product vitamin C complex they enclose the active constituents with a shell of ascorbic acid being a functional component of the vitamin complex. But, ascorbic acid only comprises five to eight percent of the actual vitamin complex. It is actually a marker molecule used to identify vitamin C activity and it’s presence in a food source. By legal definition isolated ascorbic acid is not vitamin C.

Ascorbic acid is the protective shell that also can function as an antioxidant but must be paired with its co-factors and other synergistic components to maximize the utilization in the body. Ascorbic acid is a single, naked molecule synthesized by processing glucose (corn syrup mostly from GMO corn) with sulfuric acid to produce the hexuronic acid form. It is not a natural whole food vitamin. It is a synthetic.

Synthetic vitamins can help initially because our cells can take a naked molecule and draw the necessary co-factors from other areas of the body. But once the co-factors are depleted the synthetic vitamin can no longer work reducing the efficacy of the substance. The return or worsening of the symptom the ascorbic acid was taken for is viewed as a reoccurrence of the original condition whereas it is actually the body’s depletion of the co-factors so the synthetic vitamin can no longer be processed. Because it is now deficient in that vitamin, even more serious conditions can arise. Another reason why synthetic vitamins cannot produce as good results as natural whole food vitamins is that the cells vibrate at a specific frequency and they don’t recognize the frequency of the synthetic vitamin so won’t process them efficiently.

So – next time you get a cold, don’t reach for ascorbic acid. Look for a whole foods vitamin C complex with all the co-factors still in tact.

Genetic mods to our bodies?

gmoThe battle over GMO labeling goes on with the EPA proposing to RAISE the allowed residue limits of glyphosate in food and feed crops! (As reported by GM Watch)  We have mentioned several bad things that can happen to our bodies from ingesting the herbicide Roundup and from the results of eating animals fed GMO corn. This is the latest warning because now they are targeting wheat! This one outlines how the quest to turn off specific genes in a plant can also turn off genes in our bodies. I doubt that’s a good thing…

  • While Monsanto insists that Roundup is safe and “minimally toxic” to humans, new research argues that glyphosate residues on and in food enhance the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and environmental toxins to disrupt normal body functions and induce disease

  • Glyphosate inhibits enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of organic substances, which, according to the researchers, is an overlooked component of its toxicity to mammals

  • The currently accepted dogma is that glyphosate is not harmful to humans because the shikimate pathway is absent in all animals. However, this pathway is present in both human and mammal’s gut bacteria, which play a massively important and heretofore largely overlooked role in human physiology

  • Rather than using in vitro DNA modification, a new breed of genetically engineered wheat is designed to produce double-strand RNA, by which the plant can silence specific genes. Research has shown that molecules created in the plant, intended to silence wheat genes to change its carbohydrate content, can match a large number of human genes and potentially turn them off as well

  • Former US Navy staff scientist Dr. Nancy Swanson did studies:

“Prevalence and incidence data show correlations between diseases of the organs and the increase in Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in the food supply, along with the increase in glyphosate-based herbicide applications. More and more studies have revealed carcinogenic and endocrine disrupting effects of Roundup at lower doses than those authorized for residues found in Genetically Modified Organisms.”

“The endocrine disrupting properties of glyphosate can lead to reproductive problems: infertility, miscarriage, birth defects, and sexual development. Fetuses, infants and children are especially susceptible because they are continually experiencing growth and hormonal changes. For optimal growth and development, it is crucial that their hormonal system is functioning properly.

The endocrine disrupting properties also lead to neurological disorders (learning disabilities (LD), attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), autism, dementia, Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder). Those most susceptible are children and the elderly.”

Make sure you look for GMO free labels or since there is no law, you may have to ask the manufacturer of corn, soy, wheat if any of their ingredients are GMO.

The JIVA products on our blog links are non GMO.

8 ways sugar is killing you.

coneDr. Nancy Appleton, author of Suicide by Sugar, actually lists 146 reasons why sugar is ruining your health. We’ll look at eight for now.

(1) Sugar is a cancer cell’s favorite food. Even without having cancer, we all have a few cancer cells floating around.

When an acidic internal environment discourages normal cellular glucose metabolism with oxygen, those oxygen starved cells begin thriving by fermenting glucose and demanding more that our culture readily provides. Why encourage them?

(2) Candida yeast cells also exist in small amounts with everyone. When they overwhelm our friendly probiotic bacteria, we have Candida yeast overgrowth, which enables this fungus to infiltrate the body with all sorts of health problems.

Diets for discouraging and helping eliminate Candida promote complete abstinence from all forms of sugar until the overgrowth recedes. High sugar intake encourages Candida, which many say is cancer’s favorite habitat.

(3) Processed sugar and fructose are stripped of all mineral content and wind up leeching minerals from our bodies, including our teeth. They also inhibit mineral absorption, including magnesium. Magnesium is a commonly deficient and vitally important for over 300 metabolic processes.

(4) GMO corn is used to manufacture High Fructose Corn Syrup, and this process creates a mercury byproduct. GMO beets are used more now for creating sucrose (table sugar). Pure unprocessed sugar cane does contain nutrients, while processing involves nasty chemicals that can come along.

(5) Sugar is addictive. It stimulates central nervous system neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, giving you a pleasant buzz to crave more and promote overeating dead processed foods.

(6) Sugar creates glucose spikes that force the pancreas to produce insulin more often and beyond it’s normal capacity. This wears the pancreas down, limiting insulin production that leads to diabetes. Type II diabetes is insulin resistance, which is preceded by metabolic syndrome at least partly attributable to high sugar intake.

(7) A depleted pancreas can’t provide sufficient proteolytic enzymes to bust open cancer cell walls and render them defenseless from the immune system’s killer cells.

(8) Many nutritional experts attribute the rise of obesity and cardiac problems to higher refined carbohydrate and sugar consumption. And the condensed fructose in HFCS is absorbed first by the liver, which cannot metabolize it all and has to store accumulated fructose as fat creating fatty liver.

What foods are GMO in your holiday dinners?

croopAs the reliance on GM seeds expands worldwide, concerns about food supply and  safety continue to escalate. Genetically engineered seeds are identical in  structure, and if a problem affects one particular crop a major crop failure can  result. For example, following the recent failure of three GMO corn crops in  three South African provinces, the Africa Centre for Biosecurity has called for  an investigation and immediate ban of all GMO food.

GM crops also manufacture their own pesticides, which puts further poisons into  humans and soil and may cause unforeseen changes in the environment. Another  concern is that toxins contained in the GMO plants may harm other organisms,  such as monarch caterpillars, bees and birds. The pesticide found in genetically  modified cotton and corn is implicated in the deaths of poultry, cows, horses, sheep and buffalo worldwide.

Make your own decision about GMO but we choose to recommend organic as for now, those farmers are using seeds that are not GMO and can re-seed themselves (supposedly if you harvest seeds from GMO crops, they won’t grow food the next year – you have to buy new seeds???)

High-Risk Crops (in commercial production; ingredients derived from these must be tested every time prior to use in Non-GMO Project Verified products (as of December 2011):

  • Alfalfa (first planting 2011)
  • Canola (approx. 90% of U.S.  crop)
  • Corn (approx. 88% of U.S. crop in 2011)
  • Cotton (approx. 90% of U.S. crop in 2011)
  • Papaya (most of Hawaiian crop; approximately 988 acres)
  • Soy (approx. 94% of U.S. crop in 2011)
  • Sugar Beets (approx. 95% of U.S. crop in 2010)
  • Zucchini and Yellow Summer Squash (approx. 25,000 acres)

ALSO high-risk: animal products (milk, meat, eggs, honey, etc.) because of contamination in feed.

Monitored Crops (those for which suspected or known incidents of contamination have occurred, and those crops which have genetically modified relatives in commercial production with which cross-pollination is possible; we test regularly to assess risk, and move to “High-Risk” category for ongoing testing if we see contamination):

  • Beta vulgaris (e.g., chard, table beets)
  • Brassica napa (e.g., rutabaga, Siberian kale)
  • Brassica rapa (e.g., bok choy, mizuna, Chinese cabbage, turnip,      rapini, tatsoi)
  • Curcubita (acorn squash, delicata squash, patty pan)
  • Flax
  • Rice

Common Ingredients Derived from GMO Risk Crops
Amino Acids, Aspartame, Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Ascorbate, Vitamin C, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Ethanol, Flavorings (“natural” and “artificial”), High-Fructose Corn Syrup, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Lactic Acid, Maltodextrins, Molasses, Monosodium Glutamate, Sucrose, Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP), Xanthan Gum, Vitamins, Yeast Products.

You may also be wondering about…

  • Tomatoes: In 1994, genetically modified Flavr Savr tomatoes became the  first commercially produced GMOs. They were brought out of production just a few years later, in 1997, due to problems with flavor and ability to hold up in shipping. There are no genetically engineered tomatoes in commercial production, and tomatoes are considered “low-risk” by the  Non-GMO Project Standard.
  • Potatoes: Genetically modified NewLeaf potatoes were introduced by Monsanto  in 1996. Due to consumer rejection several fast-food chains and chip makers, the product was never successful and was discontinued in the spring of 2001. There are no genetically engineered potatoes in commercial production, and potatoes are considered “low-risk” by the Non-GMO Project Standard.
  • Wheat: There is not currently, nor has there ever been, any genetically  engineered wheat on the market. Of all “low-risk” crops, this is the one most commonly (and incorrectly) assumed to be GMO. It is a key commodity crop, and the biotech industry is pushing hard to bring GMO varieties to  market. The Non-GMO Project closely watches all development on this front.
  • Salmon: A company called AquaBounty is currently petitioning the FDA to approve it’s engineered variety of salmon, which has met with fierce consumer resistance.
  • Pigs: A genetically engineered variety of pig, called Enviropig   was developed by scientists at the University of Guelph, with research starting in 1995 and government approval sought beginning in      2009. In 2012 the University announced an end to the Enviropig program,   and the pigs themselves were euthanized in June 2012.
