Cell phones and kids

cellToday’s smartphones, iPads and electronic devices are relatively new, but research is raising serious concerns about their long-term health impacts. Microwave radiation at the levels we get from our cell phones is linked to damage to the nervous, reproductive, and immune systems. When parents give their infant or toddler an iPad, it is a brain stimulant, and now other nations are finding that children cannot self soothe or control impulses, with lots of data from Korea and other countries on digital dementia, etc.

There is particular concern for children, teens, and young adults, who are increasingly heavy users but whose growing bodies are also more vulnerable to the radiation. Some studies have found those who start using cell phones as teens have a greater health risk than those who started as adults.

Children are disproportionately affected by environmental exposures, including cell phone radiation. The differences in bone density and the amount of fluid in a child’s brain compared to an adult’s brain could allow children to absorb greater quantities of RF energy deeper into their brains than adults. It is essential that any new standards for cell phones or other wireless devices be based on protecting the youngest and most vulnerable populations to ensure they are safeguarded through their lifetimes.

In May 2011, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the United Nations’ World Health Organization’s (WHO) agency promoting international cancer research collaboration, classified RF energy as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.” This applies to WiFi signals too.

To protect yourself and your kids…. never carry a phone that is on in your clothes, always wear a headset or turn the speaker on and never hold it to your ear. Choose hard-wired over WiFi for your computer. The warning on the cell phone says “Body-worn SAR testing has been carried out at a separation distance of 1.0 cm. To meet RF exposure guidelines during body-worn operation, the device should be positioned at least this distance away from the body.” So take heed.

Like cancer from smoking took decades to link the two so will we see RF health effects appearing down the road. Don’t be one of those affected.

Vitamin D Increases Cancer Survival Length

100px-Pink_ribbon_svgA new study reported a the 2015 American Society of Cancer Oncology Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium shows that metastatic colorectal cancer patients who had high levels of vitamin D in their bloodstream prior to chemo survived longer on an average than those who did not.  On the average the groups with the highest levels of vitamin D survived 33% longer and also were associated with longer time to disease progression. Previous studies already showed that vitamin D may play a role in cancer inhibition.

Can Fish Oil contribute to prostate cancer?

fishIn the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, a study was published finding that men with high levels of fish oil in their blood had an increased risk of developing prostate cancer to the tune of 43%. In the New England Journal of Medicine, a study by Dr. Topol cited that large doses of fish oil don’t prevent heart attack or stroke. Add these reports to other recent findings and you wonder where to get your omega 3 and 6s.

Plant sourced EFAs (essential fatty acids) may be the answer. Oils from fish can have toxins, including mercury that may build up in the body. Plant oils when derived from organic sources would be purer. Fish have no oil glands so creating fish oil supplements basically means you get “juiced” fish and the processing may alter the natural oils. Plant oils such as evening primrose, flax, safflower, pumpkin, sunflower and coconut oils can be blended to provide a good alternative. These are excellent sources of “parent” omega 3 & 6.

Another misnomer is that you need more omega 3 than omega 6 because you get the 6 in your diet. Unfortunately its the quality of the 6 that is important. Most omega 6 is received from diets high in transfats (the cancer causing ones) from processed foods where the EFA becomes ineffective. You can also overdose on Omega 3 which is abundant in beef, chicken, fish and pork and weighted omega 3 supplements. This can cause serious health problems as the body requires significantly less parent omega 3 than 6. More than 97% of your body needs at least a 4/1 ratio in favor of “parent” omega 6 over “parent” omega 3 because that is what your tissues and organs require. But it must be a healthy form of omega 6. Plant oils can supply this in a balanced organic blend. This will also provide the perfect balance of omegas to assure cellular oxygen update and help prevent illness such as cancer, whose cells are unable to live in an oxygen rich environment.

Fish oils may end up coating cells and preventing the oxygen uptake. The proper fatty acids can alleviate this affecting the permeability of cell membranes to molecular oxygen by increasing cellular oxygenation by up to 50%. This creates an unfriendly environment for cancer. Harper’s Illustrated Biochemistry (26th edition, 2003) confirmed this oxygenating ability of EFAs. Therefore, if you want to get all the benefits of essential fatty acids in a balanced treatment we suggest you do more research on plant oils. The one we’ve been taking since we got educated years ago is YES (that’s the brand name). A link is entered here for your convenience. http://bit.ly/1jPU7Cf

Which kind of soy is good for you?

questionSoybeans were originally grown as a cover crop to be turned into the soil as fertilizer. Somewhere along the line someone got the idea to make it into feed for animals and than somewhere further down the line someone decided it was good for people. But soybeans have an enzyme inhibitor that prevents them from being digested properly. Babies fed soy formula cry because of the gas it creates in their tummies. This soy, because it is unable to be broken down in the body, can affect the hormone regulation and many physicians warn that it can contribute to breast cancer. The soy protein isolates in foods such as tofu, soymilk and edamame have potentially anti-nutritive value due to their high phyate and oxalic acid levels.

But, there is a good side of soy too. When the soybean is fermented or sprouted this enzyme inhibitor disappears and thus the soy can be digested  allowing nutritive bioavailability without the possible ill effects of the uncultured soybean. It displays characteristics of a selective estrogen receptor (ER) modulator (SERM) rather than an estrogen  (Pike et al. 1999). What this means is that the beneficial isoflavone precursors (know to be used in cancer treatment) can be converted to their active forms, genestein and diadzein. However, genistein, with few exceptions, is not a major isoflavone of most soy foods and products consumed in Western countries, unless these have undergone fermentation, as in traditional foods such as tempeh, natto, and to some extent miso (Coward et al. 1993).

Soybeans are rich in nitrogen, polysaccharides, selenium, zinc, vitamin Bs, D2, E and K1, but this are less available unless the bean is sprouted or fermented.  In addition to the nutritive value, fermented soy is a great source of protein that is lactose-free and vegan. With bodybuilders, dieters and health conscious individuals looking for a good meal replacement, a fermented soy product with added curcumin as an anti-inflammatory should be considered. Not only will you be getting a nutritious meal substitute, but you will be ingesting the disease fighting benefits of the isoflavones. So next time you go looking for a soy product make sure it is fermented or sprouted.

Radio discussion on smart meter hazards

smartmeterIf you don’t know what a smart meter is please visit the blog No Mass Smart Meters and get educated. This program is sweeping the country with promises of energy savings. Unfortunately that is not what happens in most cases after the popcorn towers start appearing all over town. Utility customers have seen their electric bills escalate and refuse to change their patterns of usage just because rates are cheaper at 3am. Costs of implementing this “green” program are subsidized by government stimulus money, but the big cost overruns are paid by you – the ratepayer.  And, many complain about the detrimental health effects of the frequencies emitted from the meters themselves, warn of fire hazards from the meters and are concerned about cybersecurity.

Listen to this radio interview by the President of the Scientific Alliance for Education who is creating awareness in Massachusetts and find out what is hanging on your building.

Study confirms GMO can be toxic

The Seralini two-year study, remarkably the most detailed long-term study ever published concerning GMO health impacts, went through rigorous peer-review and was publicly available for over a year in the journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology. It revealed that consumption of GMO corn sprayed with RoundupTM showed liver and kidney organ damage, higher female morbidity rates (with females dying two to three times more than controls in all rat groups) and additionally, cancer tumors starting in the fourth month of the study. In treated males, the liver and kidneys were the most commonly impacted organs, and deaths were mostly due to liver and kidney disease.

Please, if you care about your health don’t buy GMO grown food or meat from animals fed GMO feed. Industry reports and studies will say there are no toxic effects, but if you research this you will find differently, including the destruction of bees – no bees – no food for humans!!

Our heart rhythms assaulted?

The human heart correlates with the Schumann Resonance of the earth. Wireless frequencies are millions of times faster than these natural rhythms. What does this say for the health of humans (unless their heart adapts) and especially children who are now living in a wifi world? Europe is way ahead of us in recognizing the hazards of electromagnetic frequencies on our bodies.

European Resolution Re: EMF and Human Health The Parliamentary Assembly of the 47-member Council of Europe passed a resolution on May 27, 2011 recommending sweeping changes to the way cell phones are used, how they are marketed, and how safe exposure limits are determined. “The potential dangers of electromagnetic fields and their effect on the environment,” resolution covers the effects of EMF fields on human health.  The Council of Europe  also advocates that electric power lines and inhabited dwellings be kept apart from each other at a safe distance, much farther than currently practiced in the building trade. They also say the siting of all new radio and cell phone antennas should be done so as to protect the health of nearby residents, not “solely according to the operators’ interests.”

Please take an interest in what these frequencies are doing. Just because cellular companies report “safe” rhetoric, do more research to see if they are just padding their case to inflate their bottom line. All of their research usually comes from the countries who opt out of EMF hazard research, like the USA. Be wary of articles that promote the RF safe cause and do you own research outside the propaganda box.  Maine is already getting aboard: California and Maine are the most heavily deployed states for the relatively new RF smart meter on your house .  Maine’s program is under audit, and Maine’s Supreme Court has ruled that the MPUC did not adequately address health concerns related to smart meters.

Splenda carcinogenic?

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is urging caution in the use of the artificial sweetener Splenda.

A food safety advocacy group has downgraded its rating for sucralose, the artificial sweetener better known as Splenda, from “safe” to “caution” in its chemical guide to food additives.

The Washington-based Center for Science in the Public Interest announced Wednesday that it had long rated sucralose as “safe” but is now categorizing it as a “caution” pending peer review of an unpublished study by an independent Italian lab that found the sweetener caused leukemia in mice.

Previously, the only long-term animal-feeding studies were done by sucralose’s manufacturers, the CSPI said.

Other artificial sweeteners such as saccharin, aspartame and acesulfame potassium (Ace-K) have received the center’s lowest rating, “avoid.”

Rebiana, a natural high-potency sweetener obtained from the plant stevia, is considered “safe” by the CSPI, though it says the sweetener needs better testing.

“Sucralose may prove to be safer than saccharin, aspartame, and acesulfame potassium, but the forthcoming Italian study warrants careful scrutiny before we can be confident that the sweetener is safe for use in food,” said CSPI Executive Director Michael F. Jacobson.

Genetic mods to our bodies?

gmoThe battle over GMO labeling goes on with the EPA proposing to RAISE the allowed residue limits of glyphosate in food and feed crops! (As reported by GM Watch)  We have mentioned several bad things that can happen to our bodies from ingesting the herbicide Roundup and from the results of eating animals fed GMO corn. This is the latest warning because now they are targeting wheat! This one outlines how the quest to turn off specific genes in a plant can also turn off genes in our bodies. I doubt that’s a good thing…

  • While Monsanto insists that Roundup is safe and “minimally toxic” to humans, new research argues that glyphosate residues on and in food enhance the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and environmental toxins to disrupt normal body functions and induce disease

  • Glyphosate inhibits enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of organic substances, which, according to the researchers, is an overlooked component of its toxicity to mammals

  • The currently accepted dogma is that glyphosate is not harmful to humans because the shikimate pathway is absent in all animals. However, this pathway is present in both human and mammal’s gut bacteria, which play a massively important and heretofore largely overlooked role in human physiology

  • Rather than using in vitro DNA modification, a new breed of genetically engineered wheat is designed to produce double-strand RNA, by which the plant can silence specific genes. Research has shown that molecules created in the plant, intended to silence wheat genes to change its carbohydrate content, can match a large number of human genes and potentially turn them off as well

  • Former US Navy staff scientist Dr. Nancy Swanson did studies:

“Prevalence and incidence data show correlations between diseases of the organs and the increase in Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in the food supply, along with the increase in glyphosate-based herbicide applications. More and more studies have revealed carcinogenic and endocrine disrupting effects of Roundup at lower doses than those authorized for residues found in Genetically Modified Organisms.”

“The endocrine disrupting properties of glyphosate can lead to reproductive problems: infertility, miscarriage, birth defects, and sexual development. Fetuses, infants and children are especially susceptible because they are continually experiencing growth and hormonal changes. For optimal growth and development, it is crucial that their hormonal system is functioning properly.

The endocrine disrupting properties also lead to neurological disorders (learning disabilities (LD), attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), autism, dementia, Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder). Those most susceptible are children and the elderly.”

Make sure you look for GMO free labels or since there is no law, you may have to ask the manufacturer of corn, soy, wheat if any of their ingredients are GMO.
